Highway 97 was shut down briefly on Thursday, Oct. 4, while police officers took down a man in a stolen vehicle.

The RCMP said in a media release that officers from 100 Mile House and Williams Lake had been looking for a stolen truck that fled from conservation officers in the Williams Lake area.

“The suspect stopped in Lac la Hache and dumped the stolen truck. He then stole a SUV from a residence.”

The stolen SUV was found exiting Wright Station Road, heading south on Highway 97.

“Officers converged on the vehicle and conducted a high-risk take down of the lone male occupant.”

Police shut down the high way for the safety of commuters while they arrested the 31-year-old suspect, a man from Prince George.

His charges include two counts of vehicle theft, flight from police and numerous breaches of probation and recognizance.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in 100 Mile House on Oct. 9.
