Float plane came down hard on Horse Lake

Support cable snapped, broke strut and caused wing to dipped into water

Around 7:30 p.m. on June 26, 100 Mile House RCMP members were called to a report of a float plane crash at the west end of Horse Lake.

When they arrived, it was determined a float plane had landed hard on the lake, which caused a support cable to snap.

The cable was part of the plane's structural integrity, which keeps the floats centred, says local RCMP Cpl. Brian Lamb.

When the cable broke, it caused one of the struts on the plane to break, he explains.

The pilot and passenger suffered no injuries as a result of the incident.

Kathy Crawshay says she saw the landing and described plane like a "bug getting its wing stuck in the water and then can't get itself upright."

Another witness, who did not want to be identified, says the plane circled before landing, and when hit the water, the right wing dipped into the water. Then the plane started to veer into shore, she explains.

Lamb notes the plane was towed to shore at the boat launch by an area resident's boat.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was notified about the incident, but it will not be investigating due to the minor nature of the incident.
