Fawn Creek fire draws mutual aid

A cabin on West Fawn Creek Road, which was destroyed by fire on May 30, kept fire crews busy when it spread into the bush.

Lone Butte Volunteer Fire Department (LBVFD) assistant fire chief (administration) Chris Zonruiter says crews were called out to a property on the cul-de-sac on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

"A small cabin burned down on the property, which caused a small brush fire with a size of 0.1 hectare. This fire is suspicious."

The LBVFD sent three trucks with several members, he explains, and then received mutual aid support from 100 Mile House Fire-Rescue, which responded with two water trucks and a crew.

Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO) also provided personnel support.

Zonruiter adds crews were on scene until dark when it had the fire contained, and returned Thursday morning to finish the mop up and check for hot spots.

The LBVFD members also checked for hot spots again on Thursday evening and Friday morning, he notes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
