Gold Rush Grannies parade

Councillors approved the Gold Rush Grannies request to hold its annual parade on municipal sidewalks on June 15.

The parade is part of a national campaign by Canadian grandmother groups who raise money for orphaned children in Africa and the grandmothers who have the responsibility for supporting them without the help of a social safety net.

The walk kicks off at Cariboo Mall, starting at 10 a.m., to the Coach House Square Mall. Later, a small group will walk in the Exeter Valley, with permission from the ranch owners.

Battery collection

Council endorsed Gold Trail Recycling of 100 Mile House as an approved depot for the collection of household batteries and cell phones, as per the requirements of Call2Recycle’s bulk collection service funding program.

The District received an e-mail from Call2Recycle, a provincial stewardship organization that provides oversight of the provincial battery and cell phone recycling initiative.

While Gold Trail Recycling is the primary recycling agent in 100 Mile House, it isn’t receiving funding from Call2Recycle. However, if District council recognized the local company as the receiving facility for this purpose, it could receive funding.

There are other businesses in 100 Mile House that accept batteries for recycling. However, it isn’t their primary source of income and, therefore, they don’t receive funding from Call2Recycle.

Cobb endorsed

Council endorsed the nomination of Walt Cobb as the 100 Mile House – Williams Lake appointee to the Barkerville Heritage Trust for a three-year period, commencing July 1.

Red Friday Parade

Council approved The Royal Canada Legion Branch #260-100 Mile House application to hold a Red Friday Parade from the Safeway parking lot to the Cenotaph on June 7, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Council noted the Legion must work in conjunction the District community services department to ensure the safety of participants and the general public.
