A collection of news briefs from the Oct. 8 regular meeting of the District of 100 Mile House Council

The District of 100 Mile House has unanimously adopted its new Tax Exemption Bylaw.

The bylaw exempts 18 properties from being taxed, including the 100 Mile House Snowmobile Club, the 100 Mile Nordic Ski Society and the South Cariboo Arts and Culture Society.

The bylaw will be in effect for a five-year term until 2029.

Commissionaires Report

The District of 100 Mile House received a bylaw report prepared by Commissionaires Inc, which manages bylaw enforcement in the District of 100 Mile House.

In the report, Jamie Suggitt, a bylaw enforcement officer, said they received eight requests for services during September. Suggitt also noted they took down several harassing signs throughout the district, talked to unhoused people camping within 100 Mile House and spoke with pet owners allowing their dogs to roam around off-leash.

In the question period, Lorne Dewar, a concerned resident of Blackstock Road, raised reports of a potentially unsafe infraction on his street where a neighbour is adding materials to their property, Dewar said, where access to the sewer lines is located. Todd Conway, the director of Community Services, said the district has not made a determination about this alleged infraction.

New woodlot manager for Community Forest

During the Oct. 8 District of 100 Mile House council meeting, the District declassified an in-camera resolution that appointed Tyrell Law as the new woodlot manager. The resolution passed unanimously.
