CrimeStoppers of South Cariboo was the recipient of the Milestone Award presented at the British Columbia CrimeStoppers Annual Advisory Board conference in Kelowna, May 12-14.

"The award is hanging in the [100 Mile House RCMP] detachment," says local board member Al Blannin who, along with Margaret Sarich, attended the convention.

"We had enough successful tips the RCMP was able to take out enough grow-ops to seize of more than $800,000 worth of drugs."

They netted the award for coming in second place for programs under 20,000 people, she notes.

All tips are appreciated, says Blannin, and they are all kept anonymous. CrimeStoppers pays cash awards for information leading to an arrest in connection with any serious crime and payment takes place anonymously, she adds.

"We are not supported by outside sources. All of the money we pay out comes through fundraising."

This year, CrimeStoppers is raffling off three holidays close to home. The grand prize is a three-day, two-night stay and fishing trip for four at the Rock Island Lake Fishing Camp, including everything but meals.

The runner-up prize is the getaway for two at the Big Bar Guest Ranch for a couple to stay two nights, including meals. The third prize is a two-night stay in a RV site and half-day boat rental at Loon Bay Resort.

The raffle sales are going good, Blannin says, adding they are selling the tickets up to and including Canada Day.

The draw will take place at the Canada Day celebrations at the 108 Heritage Site.
