Crime Stoppers of South Cariboo (CSSC) announced the winners of its raffle at the Canada Day celebrations at the 108 Heritage Site. Prizewinners Sid and Deanna Stokes

As a fundraiser for Crime Stoppers of South Cariboo (CSSC), the members wanted something a little different for a raffle, and chose holidays close to home.

CSSC needs to maintain its local costs, as it is responsible for raising money to cover the TIPS cash awards, as well as operational costs.

"We wanted something different for prizes and also wanted to alleviate hitting up the businesses in town for donations," says local member Darrel Warman.

Winners of the latest raffle were announced during the Canada Day celebrations at the 108 Heritage site.

The grand prizewinner was Kim Taylor who won a three-day, two-night stay and fishing trip for four at the Rock Island Lake Fishing camp.

The second prizewinner was Orville Lester who won the two-night stay for people at Big Bar Guest Ranch in Clinton.

The third prize went to Sid and Deanna Stokes of 70 Mile who won two nights camping with full RV hook-ups at Loon Bay Resort.

"We raised over $1,100 from the fundraiser," says Warman.

She notes that CSSC is a completely anonymous program not attached to the RCMP, but works in association with the police and area communities.

Warman adds all the money they pay out for tips comes through fundraising.

"We want to thank all the businesses that supported our fundraiser, and give a huge thank-you to the community for its support."
