Some services formally associated with the Women’s Centre are still being provided for all women in the South Cariboo.
The 100 Mile branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is hosting an open house for its Stopping the Violence (STV) counselling program.
STV is a free counselling program available to women in the area who have been sexually assaulted, experienced violence or abuse in relationships.

“The community is familiar with the program being associated with the Women’s Centre,” said Kalika Moody, the program counsellor. “It is now associated with the CMHA and we are located in a different building.”
The CMHA is inviting the public to attend the open house on Dec. 18, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The office is located at 475 Birch Ave inside the Business Centre in room 226.

This STV program is a free counselling service that provides women with individual and group counselling. The CMHA has also re-established the Safe House program for women who may be fleeing violence or abusive relationships.
The Safe House can help women establish a safety plan, but will also provide moral support, transportation and more services as necessary.
“These programs help women recognize what their human rights are, as a woman and as an individual,” said Moody. “It helps them find their strength.”
Moody says the Safehouse program can be accessed by calling the victim link at 1-800-563-0808 and ask for the 100 Mile House program.
