Councillors make some moves in April

Building permits paused, tax increased and industrial water rates changed

Following are the highlights from the April 28, District of 100 Mile House council meeting.

Worked stopped for permits

Council authorized an amendment to the building design approved by a Sept. 30, 2014 Development Permit for a 100 Mile Wood Products commercial building at 490 Cedar Ave., upon a written request dated April 15, 2015.

After a new concrete entry pad was poured, the addition of a timber entrance structure was proposed with the entry overhang also extended by approximately two feet to protect the pad surface from the elements.

While this extension was approved by the building inspector, the property owner later decided to upgrade the plan to a post-and-beam gable roof, but inadvertently commenced work before getting a new permit or approvals, so the owner temporarily stopped work and requested the amendment.

Tax rate increases set

All three readings were given to Tax Rate Bylaw 1282 at the meeting.

It sets the average 2015 residential tax rate (after the homeowners grant is applied) at $1,128.02, a $25.44 increase from the $1,102.58 in 2014. For businesses, the average 2015 tax rate is at $6,638.31, up $242.31 from $6,396 in 2014.

A staff memo to council noted some changes may yet occur in the "Other Tax Rates" category because preliminary School Tax and RCMP Tax are included at 2014 rates, since they have not been set by the tax authority yet.

Industrial Park water rates

Council approved amendments to the Exeter Road Water Specified Area Frontage Tax Bylaw that will set the annual rate beginning Jan. 1, 2015 at $2.9189 per metre of taxable frontage.

It was also amended to delineate the total actual frontage at 1,399.26 metres, and the total taxable frontage at 980.01 metres.
