Container constraints and agriculture support

Actions that occurred at the District of 100 Mile House council meeting

Following are the highlights from the Feb. 14 District of 100 Mile House Committee of the Whole meeting, which is held prior to the regular council meeting:

Shipping container use limited

The draft zoning amendment bylaw for shipping containers was reviewed by council.

In the proposed bylaw, shipping containers are not allowed in residential areas except on a temporary basis during periods of active construction on the property performed under a valid building permit.

Certain bylaw regulations for other areas include aspects for permanent placement in non-residential areas, such as required visual screening from roadways and limits to quantities per parcel/lot size and allowable uses.

Mayor Mitch Campsall says council was comfortable with the wording of the bylaw and it will now proceed to first reading and the public hearing process.

Rent-free Ag-Centre lease

The one-year lease for the Agri-Culture Enterprise Development Centre (Ag-Centre) expires April 30, and council approved a two-year lease renewal with the option for a two-year extension.

Council has provided the leased space in The Lodge rent-free to the Ag-Centre, and will continue to do so for the upcoming term, as an in-kind contribution to assist the society to move forward.

The lease contract stipulates the facility's use to be confined to Ag-Centre administration activities, unless prior written consent is obtained from the district.
