A recall has been issued for various store-packaged, cooked chicken wings sold at Canada Safeway stores, including in the 100 Mile House store, because they may contain the toxin produced by staphylococcus bacteria.
People are warned not to consume the recalled products that were sold in Safeway locations across Western Canada and in Ontario.
Issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) after being triggered by the manufacturer, the recall affects Party Pack Chicken Wings Hot Salt N Pepper, PPK Wings Mix flavours Hot, Pinty's Wings Salt and Pepper Hot, and Pinty's Wings Salt and Pepper Cold, sold up to and including Aug. 14.
Safeway Canada spokesperson Betty Kellsey confirms these wings were sold at the 100 Mile House store, and anyone who has any of the affected product on hand should bring it back to Safeway or throw it out.
"Customers that do still have it are most welcome and encouraged to return it to the Safeway store for a full refund, or we [can] replace the product."
The CFIA is verifying recalled products are removed from the marketplace and is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products.
