Cattle killed in rollover near 83 Mile

thirty head of cattle killed during roll-over incident

A cattle liner overturned on Highway 97 near 83 Mile Road on Oct. 16, resulting in 30 dead cows and minor injuries to the truck’s passenger.

Clinton RCMP Cpl. Barbara Holley says the truck was travelling from Williams Lake to Alberta transporting 95 head of cattle when it rolled into the ditch on the west side of the highway.

Clinton RCMP responded at 12:15 p.m., Holley explains, and the driver stated he was travelling at 80 km/h when the load shifted, causing the tractor-trailer to go off the road.

The driver was unhurt, she adds, and a passenger was transported to 100 Mile District General Hospital for treatment.

"The Clinton RCMP would like to thank all persons who came to assist the RCMP in the processing of the animals in this tragic incident."
