Be aware of attempted scam

Area woman thwarts scammers trying to get her financial information by purchase an electricity-monitoring device

An area woman says she wants to make people aware of a scam that came to her attention last week She received a phone call from someone claiming to be from BC Hydro who wanted to sell her an electricity-monitoring device. The man claimed it would save her 30 to 40 per cent on her hydro bill a month, and all she would have to do is pay $199 to receive this portable device by mail. However, the caller became rude after she denied the service he was offering. After hanging up on him, his "supervisor' called back and tried to convince her she needed this device. The local woman then spoke to BC Hydro directly, and it was confirmed that this was an attempted scam. She added the BC Hydro spokesperson said the Crown corporation doesn’t have anyone trying to sell this product
