Semlin wildfire east of Cache Creek is now listed as being held

Crews remain on site to patrol and do mop-up work

UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: BC Wildfire Service is reporting that the Semlin wildfire east of Cache Creek is holding at 41 hectares, and that crews remain on site to patrol and to conduct mop-up operations.

The fire, on the south side of the Thompson River, was contained by the river and by the CP mainline to the south.

BC Wildfire Service has said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The BC Wildfire Service is battling a grass fire across the river from Juniper Beach Provincial Park, approximately 16km east of Cache Creek.

The Semlin wildfire was discovered in the afternoon of Aug. 26, and 22 BC Wildfire Service crew members worked into the night battling the fire, reported as being 41 hectares in size.

When crews returned on the morning of Aug. 27, it was determined that the fire had not grown overnight, and it is currently listed as being held. The fire does not threaten any structures, but is close to the CP mainline.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
