Assessed property values show an increase

More than 1,100 property owners in the District of 100 Mile House can expect to receive their 2012 assessment notices

If they haven't received them already, more than 1,100 property owners in the District of 100 Mile House can expect to receive their 2012 assessment notices in the next few days, says deputy assessor Darin Johnson.

"Most homes in 100 Mile House are worth somewhat more in value compared to last year's assessment roll. Most home owners in the municipality will see moderate changes in the minus-10 to plus-10 per cent range."

Overall, the District of 100 Mile House's assessment roll decreased from $296.8 million last year to $294.9 million this year, Johnson notes.

Despite this decrease, a total of $2.1 million was added to the assessment roll, which includes subdivisions, rezoning and new construction, he adds.

"Property owners who feel that their property assessment does not reflect market value as of July 1, 2011 or see incorrect information on their notice, should contact our office as indicated on their notice as soon as possible in January," Johnson explains.

"If a property owner is still concerned about their assessment after speaking to one of our appraisers, they may submit a Notice of Complaint (Appeal) by Jan. 31, for an independent review by a Property Assessment Review Panel."

The Property Assessment Review Panels, independent of BC Assessment, are appointed annually by the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, and meet between Feb. 1 and March 15 to hear formal complaints.

The Cariboo assessment office is located at Suite 202 - 350 Barnard St. in Williams Lake.

During the month of January, office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The telephone number is 250-392-2996, or toll free at 1-800-919-9918.
