Anyone interested in learning more about invasive aquatic species, or the committee that helps control their spread, has an opportunity to do so in the South Cariboo.
The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Invasive Plant Committee (CCCIPC) is inviting the public to join them in a free field day, including a tour, lunch and annual general meeting, June 20.
CCCIPC chair Emily Sontag says the tour bus will depart from the Save-On-Foods parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and return around 4 p.m.
Lunch will be provided, along with refreshments and snacks throughout the day. The AGM will take place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Eastwood Lake Restaurant, Sontag notes.
"Aquatic invasive species are important in our work and recreation lives. Any one of your favourite fishing or swimming holes could be at risk."
People who join the tour will learn to identify several invasive species, both plant and animal, and how to limit their introduction and spread.
The economic, environmental and social impacts of invasive species will also be demonstrated.
Pre-registration is required, where folks can opt to join the field tour, AGM and lunch, or the AGM and lunch only.
