Communities in Bloom committee members have been out and about looking for people who are keeping their neighbourhoods neat and tidy. The committee recently recognized local resident Greg Aiken for doing just that.

The Communities in Bloom (CiB) committee has been out spotting people keeping 100 Mile House clean and tidy.

Local resident Greg Aiken was seen recently keeping a few yards green and clean. Greg does a fantastic job weed whacking and keeping lawns looking great for summer.

The first topic our town will be judged on by the CiB judges will be "tidiness."

This includes an overall effort of tidiness made by the municipality, businesses and private citizens of 100 Mile.

The judges will look at the tidiness of our green spaces, medians, streets, ditches, road shoulders, signage, vacant lots and buildings, with regards to garbage, weeds, maintenance and repair, dog droppings, notices/posters, graffiti and vandalism.

They will also be looking at what steps we have made to keep things tidy, what bylaws we have in place and how we have implemented these in our community.

The CIB committee needs residents to tell us if they know of a business, person or a group that has made significant efforts to assist in this issue.

Perhaps there is an "adopt a highway" cleanup crew in place, or a business owner who takes this on personally or encourages staff to notice their surroundings.

Let us know, so we can recognize outstanding achievements and tell the judges. You can call 250-706-2044 or send an e-mail to 100milecib@gmail.com. Keep up the great work 100 Mile; things are looking bloomin’ beautiful.

Remember to nominate your neighbours, a business or nominate your own garden, so our judges get a chance to see them on the tour.

Residential contest categories include: Best Balcony/Patio; Best Herb/Vegetable Garden; Best Xeriscape (dry landscape); Best Front Yard Design; Best Backyard; Tidiest Block; and Best Overall.

Registration forms available online at www.100milehouse.com, or can be picked up at the District or Chamber of Commerce offices.
