The 100 Mile House Wranglers defeated the Kelowna Chiefs 3-2 in a hard-fought home-ice victory on Friday, Oct. 11.
The game marked the first time in two weeks the Wranglers have played on home ice. So far this month the Wranglers have won two of their three games on the road and both their games at home, beating out the Nelson Leafs 6-3 on Sunday, Oct. 13.
On Friday night, however, the Chiefs scored an early goal thanks to Kaiden Syndenham, with assists from Luke Rishaug and Ben Henshall, on a powerplay. Throughout the first period, the Chiefs looked to be in control of the game, with them largely dominating the Wranglers causing several fights to break out between the two teams.
Despite this Wranglers goaltender Ivan Tolsma stood firm and did not let any further goals into the net.
Near the end of the second period, 100 Mile House answered the Chiefs' challenge with a shorthanded goal scored by Luke McFarlane, with some help from Ethan Davey. This goal shifted the momentum of the night.
The third period was when the Wranglers took the driver's seat and never looked back. Davey, assisted by Brodie Gohmann and Landen Janz, scored a power play goal with 12 minutes left putting the Wranglers in the lead. Near the end of the third period, Gohmann scored an empty net goal clinching the victory for the Wranglers, though the Chiefs' Campbell Pinsonneault managed to score one final unassisted goal with less the a minute left in the game.
The Wranglers will next face off against the Quesnel River Rush on Oct.15 at the West Fraser Centre at 7 p.m. The next home game for the 100 Mile House Wranglers is on Oct. 18 against the Williams Lake Mustangs at 7 p.m.
