A two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 24 on the morning of Monday, Aug. 26 has left one motorist dead.
100 Mile House RCMP Sgt. Brian Lamb said that RCMP received reports of the two-vehicle collision at 7:30 a.m. and attended the scene near Eagle Island Road at Lac Des Roches. Joining them were members of the Clearwater RCMP detachment along with emergency health services and members of the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that a semi tractor trailer unit which was travelling west and a passenger car which was travelling east on Highway 24 collided head-on," Lamb said. "The driver and sole occupant of the passenger vehicle was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured."
Lamb said that Highway 24 was closed in both directions while RCMP conducted a scene investigation with the help of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services from Kamloops. The BC Coroners Service also attended the scene. Highway 24 has since been reopened after being closed for roughly six hours Monday morning and afternoon.
RCMP are still investigating the causal factors of the incident and is requesting anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dash cam footage or any information relevant to the case, to call the RCMP at 250-395-2456. RCMP provided no details on the identity of the deceased.
