100 Mile Fire Rescue extinguishes truck fire near high school

A truck fire broke out spontaneously near Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School

100 Mile Fire Rescue extinguished a truck fire visible from Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

The fire started in a first aid truck parked in a lot next door to the 100 Mile House Foodbank Society and was reported by several members of the public, with a large group of high schoolers gathering to watch. 100 Mile Fire Rescue chief Dave Bissat was first on the scene and fought the fire, which had  fully engulfed the engine block and cab of the truck, until other members of his department arrived.

"We had eight members attend and we quickly knocked down the fire and didn't let it spread to any of the other vehicles in the yard," Bissat said.

When asked why the truck, which was parked and stationary at the time, burst into flames Bissatt said the cause was not immediately apparent. Bissat noted, however, the yard the truck was in was under surveillance which may shed light on the cause.

"Something combusted in the motor compartment but it was nothing suspicious," Bissat remarked.

100 Mile Rescue was on the scene for about an hour to ensure the vehicle was fully extinguished.
