Nicole Weir, running for 100 Mile Council, was born and raised in 100 Mile House and has never left other than living on Green Lake until she was five and two brief months in Abbotsford. She said she has stayed here for the lifestyle and amazing community.

Question: When did you initially get involved with politics and how long have you been involved?

Answer: This will be my first official political experience. Though I am well practised at working with groups of people, all with different opinions and ideas, collaborating and producing some exceptional projects and results. Some of the most amazing things can come from disagreement and being open to other ideas and being able to clearly express your opinions and meld them together.

Q: What made you want to run for councillor? Is it your first time?

I have been contemplating getting involved for a couple years, but honestly thought I needed to be older (at least 40, maybe a few more grey hairs) to even stand a chance of getting voted in.

Then I realized that all the attributes that I felt held me back are in fact assets. I am young, a mother, a business owner and a volunteer. I am very invested in this community and I want to see it prosper. I want to be a part of the growth and changes that will happen over the next few years. I want to be a voice for families, for arts and recreation, for business. I want to be a voice for a strong community.

Q: What are some of the more important issues in the 100 Mile House District?

From my perspective and from what I have discussed with community members and other business owners, I would say the need for increased recreation, the need for skilled employees and housing so they can stay and live here are among the top. I think these all tie together with many more issues that aren’t commonly considered until they become problems, such as ageing water systems and infrastructure. I know that there is an incredible amount that goes into running a community and it is never as simple as we think it is or should be. I am ready and willing to learn and to work incredibly hard for this town to continue making it a better place to live and more desirable place to visit.

Q: What do you wish to accomplish during your term if elected?

During my term on council, I would like to see no vacant business locations along Birch Avenue. I would like to see more events happening and businesses opening. I would like to learn all about running a town and contribute wherever and whenever I can. I want to see us grow and invest in our community, I would like to see our community as together as we were after the fires, but all the time.

Q: Why should the people of 100 Mile House vote for you?

I’m dedicated to giving my all to 100 Mile House and it’s residents and non-resident community members.

Q: How can supporters get in touch with you or find more out about your platform?

Please feel free to call me: 250-791-6345. I’m planning to be at Jackson’s on Friday’s after work for beer and politics come in for a chat.
