Margo Wagner is the current Cariboo Regional District Area H director. She, along with her husband Brian, moved to Canim Lake in 2004 after retiring from nursing.

Question: When did you initially get involved with politics and how long have you been involved?

Answer: I was first elected to represent Area H in the Cariboo Regional District in 2011, and have been involved ever since.

Q: What made you want to run for director of CRD Area H?

I felt that more could be done for the residents in Area H, especially in communicating with the many seasonal residents who pay high property taxes and really felt they were getting very little info on what that tax money was going towards. When I ran in 2011, it was my first foray into politics.

Q: What are some of the more important issues in the Cariboo Regional District?

I would say that after the past two years, making our communities fire safe, and encouraging the forestry sector to clean up our forests of deadfall, fir beetle and increase general forest health is important as well as diversifying our economy so that we are not so reliant on forestry in the decades to come. The ongoing discussions regarding the lack of cell service and affordable high-speed internet is a constant issue for residents and especially tourism operators, guests to the South Cariboo often come from cities and just expect the connectivity that they enjoy in their everyday life.

Q: What do you wish to accomplish during your term if elected?

Increased connectivity for communities, Fire Smarting within the community and increased local prosperity for tourism operators and residents. I hope to see the continuing cooperation the South Cariboo Directors have developed with the District of 100 Mile House – we work better together as one community.

Q: Why should the people of South Cariboo vote for you?

Fortunately, I have the honour of being acclaimed, so would like to graciously acknowledge the residents of Area H who have shown confidence in allowing me to continue to represent them.

Q: How can supporters get in touch with you or find out more about your platform?

They can reach me by phone 250-397-0016 at home, 250-706-0639 by cell, or email me at mwagner@cariboord.ca.
