Many skiers and boarders in the Cariboo are happy to have snow to play in this season, even if it is still a low snow pack.
Mount Timothy Recreation Resort had some good quality snow and opened their expansion runs over the weekend with a bit of fresh snow falling Jan. 11.
The resort said it has a mid-mountain snow base of 97 cm so far, with a few centimetres of snow forecast for later this week.
The new shelter at the bottom for brown-baggers had a fire going and great views of the chair and the hill was bustling, though far from big ski hill busy, with a brief lift line once the lunch crowd returned.
The tube slide area also appeared popular.
Troll Mountain to the north also reportedly had a great weekend. With fresh powder during the week and sunshine and blue skies on the Saturday, it was another popular place for skiers and boarders. The hill reports 70 cm of snowfall so far this season.
Last season, for the 2023-24 ski sseason, Mt. Timothy did not open and Troll opened intermittently due to a lack of snow. Both opened before the Christmas break in 2024 and have been building up their bases and are hoping for more to come.
