Big Horn Archery Club hosting annual indoor shoot

The Big Horn Archery Club is hosting its annual indoor shoot at the Stan Halcro Agriplex on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6

Members of the community are once again invited to attend the Big Horn Archery Club annual Indoor 3D shoot this weekend.

Set to take place at the Stan Halcro Agriplex on Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6 the event is expected to attract dozens of archers from across the province. Allen Pickering, the club's spokesperson and past president, said they welcome anyone to participate in the shoot with their traditional or compound bows. It costs just $5 to register for the shoot and an additional $5 a round.

"It's for all ages. We've got some novelty shoots. One of them is being seated in an outhouse, we shoot through some hollow logs as another one and we have a couple of spot shots, one for traditional and one for compound," Pickering said. "Our target would be 65 to 70 (archers) but I'll be happy if we get 50 or 60 people. This year we're hoping the fall weather will stay nice and it will be a nice drive for everybody."

As in previous years, the agriplex will be filled with a wide range of three-dimensional targets and terrain futures including fake trees and animals. Archers will then compete to see who can score the most points. Pickering noted that this year they will no longer be doing a breakfast concession but will still be offering coffee and doughnuts to participants.

Registration takes place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with shooting getting underway at 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. while on Sunday shooting begins at 9 a.m. and will wrap up by 1:30 p.m. After looking over the submitted score cards Pickering said they will present prizes to the top shooters in various age and bow categories.

"At the end of the shooting period on Sunday while all the scores are being tabulated we'll have a hidden spot shot that a person can shoot as many shots as they wish. A spot shot is a toonie an arrow, so you can buy as many shots as you want," Pickering said. "The spot is on a target which is placed in a random spot and covered over so nobody can see the spot. The closest to the spot will share the pot with the club."

Anyone looking for further information on the shoot is invited to reach out to the club at BighornArchery100Mile@outlook.com. Spectators are welcome to attend for free.
