The South Cariboo Rec Centre is holding several upcoming summer programs this year.
The summer programs include kids summer camps, which are set to be held between July 15 to 19, July 22 to 26, August 12 to 16, and August 19 to 23. It should be noted that the July 22 to 26 summer camp has already been fully booked. The camps will include an arts and crafts workshop, cooking classes, team sports and games, as well as water fun days, nature hikes and exploration, with certified and experienced staff on hand.
Laura Albert, the program sales coordinator with the South Cariboo Rec Centre, said that the summer camps are a "great way for kids to build friendships" and to "learn new skills."
There will also be a Red Cross babysitting course, which will take place on July 23 and 25 between 1 and 4 p.m. each day. In the past, programs related to the Red Cross were held a few times throughout the year, according to Albert, however, this year it is a bit different.
"We decided to combine them with some of our camps, and offer a babysitting course," Albert explained.
As well, there will be opportunities to play pickleball every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., as well as ball hockey every Wednesday between 6 and 7:30 p.m. until July 24.
Finally, there is the Summer Hockey Camp, which is set to take place at the tail end of summer between August 26 and 30. The hockey camp will run with different age groups: for example: the 11 to 16-year-old group will participate in the camp in the morning, the five to seven-year-old group at noon and the eight to 10-year-old group in the afternoon - according to Albert.
"I'm excited. It's nice to keep seeing these kids who I get to see during the winter months but I get to see them return over the summer," noted Albert about her feelings on the Rec Centre's upcoming summer programs.
