The Quesnel RCMP partnered with the city's bylaws department to target shoplifting in the city after concerns were raised by local businesses.
Over the course of four days the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and Quesnel Bylaws identified and apprehended shoplifters in the city. The project recovered $1,728.89 in stolen goods and a stolen semi-truck, an RCMP release said.
Throughout the project, Mounties arrested seven men and one woman as well as detained three youth for investigation. There were 18 outstanding arrest warrants executed during the project, RCMP said.
"The RCMP’s partnership with Bylaws helped to make this project successful," said Sgt. Clay Kronebusch in the release. "These thefts have a significant financial cost to businesses and the consumers."
The RCMP will be forwarding the results of the investigation to BC Prosecution Services.
