The city hall in Quesnel and the Williams Lake library are being picketed by Cariboo Regional District staff Tuesday (May 21), as the BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) members ramp up strike action.
CRD staff have been on the picket lines since May 13 in Williams Lake outside the CRD offices. The following day, picket lines were set up outside the 100 Mile House library and Quesnel library.
In a news release issued May 21, the BCGEU noted they have been fighting for a fair contract for months and are now picketing the library in Williams Lake and Quesnel’s city hall, forced by the regional district’s inaction at the bargaining table.
Wages, inflation-matching protections and improvements to working conditions are some of the issues the union is hoping will be addressed.
Quesnel city hall is open, however, at this time only cash or cheques are being accepted for payments.
