100 Mile House RCMP were kept busy during the week of July 16-22, with 126 calls to service for their officers.

Dog in distress

A dog in heat distress was rescued from a vehicle parked on Cedar Avenue after a report from a concerned citizen.

The dog was taken to a vet clinic to be treated for heat stress after RCMP accessed the vehicle and RCMP followed up with the owner and provided information to the SPCA on the incident. RCMP report they have continued to respond to reports of pets left in vehicles during the extreme heat.

Hit and run

Multiple vehicle-related incidents also kept staff busy, including a hit-and-run on Horse Lake Road near Cedar Avenue on July 20.

One vehicle had been rear-ended and remained at the scene after being struck while the driver who reportedly hit them fled the scene.

Police were able to locate the driver they believed responsible and said the driver exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. Police issued a demand for alcohol testing, which the driver refused. The driver was then given an immediate roadside driving prohibition for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. A violation ticket for failing to remain at the scene of an accident was also issued. No injuries resulted from the collision.

Stolen vehicle recovered

Also on July 20, a patrol on Highway 97 near Lac La Hache resulted in police pulling over a vehicle displaying multiple safety defects.

After searching the license plate, police found the plates had been reported stolen from Williams Lake. Police stopped the vehicle and arrested a male driver for possession of stolen property. He was also issued violation tickets for no insurance, no drivers, license, and wrong number plate. The vehicle was also impounded. A female passenger was also arrested. Both were released until a court appearance.

Impaired drivers

A report of a vehicle driven into the ditch on Highway 24 near Lone Butte also took place on July 20. Police who responded located the vehicle and driver, who had no obvious injuries. Officers believed they saw symptoms of alcohol consumption and they issued a breath demand. A breath test then resulted in a fail. The driver was given an immediate roadside driving prohibition for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Another driver was found inside their vehicle by police on Kallum Drive near Kitwanga Drive after a report of a single vehicle collision on July 21.

Police said the vehicle appeared to have hit the ditch and then became high-centred on a concrete barrier at a parking lot entrance.

Once again, police suspected alcohol consumption by the driver and issued a breath demand. A breath test resulted in a fail and the driver was issued an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The driver was also taken to hospital for unknown injuries.

Speed enforcement

A speed enforcement operation by BC Highway Patrol on Highway 97 near Knife Creek Road on July 21 resulted in another vehicle being impounded after the driver was tracked at a speed of 139 km/h using radar.

The posted speed limit in the area is 100 km/h.

The driver did not have a valid drivers license and was flagged as a vehicle impound candidate. The driver was given violation tickets for not having a drivers license, speeding and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The driver was also given a prohibition from driving for 90 days.

Firearm found in vehicle

The same day, police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver, and a vehicle stuck in the ditch on Bradley Creek Road. Police located the suspected driver and the vehicle, no longer stuck, and driving on Bradley Creek Road.

After pulling over the driver, the RCMP issued a breath demand and the male refused to provide a breath sample. A vehicle search also uncovered a firearm and ammunition, which the driver was not authorized to possess. These were seized and the driver was held in custody and then released to attend court at a later date. He was also issued an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Stolen truck found

A report of a truck and flat deck trailer with a Caterpillar skid steer found abandoned on a property near Tatton Station Road and Helena Lake Road came to police on July 21.

Police attended and determined the truck was a 2019 grey Dodge Ram 2500 which had been stolen from Monte Creek on July 17. The trailer and skid steer had not been reported stolen but were suspected as having been. Police believe the truck was left at the property between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on July 21.

Trailer theft

On July 22, RCMP also received a report of a theft of trailer from a location on the 500 block of Horse Lake Rd. Sometime between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m., a 2020 “5 X 7” DK2 trailer with B.C. license plate WLK25V had been taken. It has not yet been recovered as of press time.

Criminal mischief
The same day, police also received a report of mischief to a vehicle which was parked on Wrangler Way. Police attended and were advised that vehicle side window had been smashed and the vehicle entered. It is not known if anything was taken and it is not known when the incident occurred.
