It took a while but eventually, MSCC’s programmer Shannon Sadlowski succeeded in establishing a four-class course of Taoist Tai Chi. Running Wednesday evenings through June for pre-registered residents, the class is instructed by Karen Broughton, who also runs the Tuesday/Thursday classes at Creekside Seniors’ Centre in town. Hence, she was able to bring several experienced members who, led by George Sinkler, provided an excellent demonstration of the art to the newcomers.
Deka ATV Club
On May 23, Deka’s Gerald Van Eldik started a new Facebook group “Deka ATV Club” which invited everyone to join. It was created “to bring the ATV community together,” to make new friends and plan an ATV/snowmobile ride, “post it on the site with a meeting point, and see who shows up.” As of this writing, 130 members had joined.
Condolences
Interlakes residents were devastated to learn of the sudden May 30 passing of David Levick, owner of Levick Enterprises. Dave was only 59 years old and very well-known as a respected businessman, an avid and accomplished rider in all seasons, and as a friend. Brought up at Sheridan Lake, Dave later moved to the coast for a while before returning here with his young family in 1992.
Sincere condolences are extended to his mother Joanne, sisters Karen and Barb, and especially his wife, Cheryl and their offspring, Ariel and Ian—all of whom have been very well-known and regarded right here in their beloved Cariboo for many decades.
A memorial service will be held at Interlakes Community Centre at 2pm, Saturday, June 22.
Sadly, on the very same day, May 30, Interlakes lost another esteemed citizen when Gordon Marshall passed away at the age of 82. A 50-year resident, Gordon was especially well-known in real estate and fly-fishing circles, but he and his wife Wendy somehow managed to keep their private life just that, private. He will be greatly missed by many friends.
Deepest sympathy is extended to Wendy and their family.
No service is planned, but those who wish may donate to South Cariboo Health Foundation in Gordon’s memory.
100 Mile Youth Theatre
Interlakes youth might like to join the new “100 Mile Youth Theatre,” for students aged 12 to 18, which is meeting at Lone Butte Community Hall. Initiated by four former PSO students, whose president is Sarah Carter, the group intends to offer its first performances (three) in late August.
Interested youth may email 100mileyouththeatre@gmail.com and let the group know how they’d like to participate. There is a $20 fee per participant to cover the cost of insurance and script fees.
