Reduced fire activity has allowed BC Parks to reopen areas within Wells Gray Provincial Park near Clearwater initially closed due to concerns surrounding wildfires.
After BC Wildfire Service flight over Wells Gray Park on Friday July 26, BCWFS has reported that most of the fires in Wells Gray are only burning Rank 1. As of Saturday morning, July 27, BC Parks opened:
- Indian Point on Azure Lake
- Chain Meadows Trail
- Flat Iron Trail.
Murtle Lake and Battle Mountain remain closed for the time being.
BC Parks have now updated their website to reflect these changes.
You can get up-to-date information about park closures and wildfires from several official sources, such as the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the local regional district, and Drive BC.
You can still visit unaffected areas of Wells Gray Park, and other BC Parks that remain unaffected by wildfires. Find other places to visit on the find a park page.
