Alcohol played a role in a single-vehicle collision that claimed the life of one motorist near 100 Mile House last week.

The MVI occurred on Nov. 29 around 4:50 p.m. in the 5400 block of Canim-Hendrix Lake Road near Geraldine Road. RCMP confirmed that the victim was declared dead on the scene.

100 Mile RCMP Sgt. Brian Lamb said that RCMP attended the scene with 100 Mile Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance. On arrival, they found a black four-door sedan that had gone off the road and struck a tree.

"The vehicle had severe damage and two occupants of the vehicle were quickly attended to by rescue personnel. Lifesaving efforts were conducted on a 46-year-old female passenger, however, she was declared deceased," Lamb said. "The other female occupant was taken to 100 Mile House Hospital for undetermined injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening."

Canim-Hendrix Lake Road was closed for several hours after the incident as RCMP investigated the scene with the BC Coroners Service. Lamb said that alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in this incident but noted the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Lamb requests anyone who witnessed the incident, has relevant dash cam footage of the vehicle leading up to the incident or has any information whatsoever assist the 100 Mile House RCMP at 250-395-2456.
