11 YEARS AGO (2013): One of the 35 stylists who were selected from around the world by Radken, a hair care company and official sponsor of MasterCard Fashion Week, which had been held in Toronto, was local 100 Mile hairdresser Nicole Weir. Weir was the owner of Village Hair Studio in 100 Mile House and had styled the hair of between four and eight models a day. The looks had varied significantly and had been heavily scrutinized by designers. Weir had stated that things had gotten hectic - and said that the whole trip to Toronto however was less intense than what she had prepared herself going for it. The next thing she was going to be doing was style the hair of Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School graduates for a winter fashion show to be held in December.
22 YEARS AGO (2002): A 108 Mile Ranch woman had managed to row herself 335,198 metres in just 30 days - becoming the top Canadian female participant in an online rowing challenge. Karen Smith, alongside her seven Wheel Room Strokers, had entered the 30-day challenge and competed against 71 teams from Canada, the U.S., England and India. Everyone had used rowing machines for this challenge. Smith herself had rowed for one to two hours a day, every day during the challenge. She said she did double for all of the days that she had missed, stating that she had averaged around 12,000 metres per hour.
33 YEARS AGO (1991): 130 residents of the Lac La Hache area had attended a public meeting had been told that Ducks Unlimited had altered its requests. Initially, Ducks Unlimited applied for licences to divert more than 1,200 acre-feet of water annually from the Lac La Hache watershed. The Ministry of Environment and Ducks Unlimited, however, had told the meeting at the Lac La Hache community hall that revised applications had now called for the use of around 150 acre-feet annually - and the water was already diverted since the application is to really legalize existing structures - which had been illegally constructed by Ducks Unlimited in the early 1980s.
44 YEARS AGO (1980): The 100 Mile and District Historical Society had acclaimed Lord Martin Cecil as the Pioneer of the Year at its farm dinner which was held at the 100 Mile House Communiy Hall - and which had been carried by CICV Cable 10 live. Table guests, in addition to Lord Martin Cecil, included Lady Martin Cecil, then Historical Society president Pat Corbett and his wife Juanita, then Mayor of 100 Mile House Ross Marks and his wife Marcia Marks, as well as former alderman Chuck Shaw-MacLaren and his wife Elanor. The event saw 200 people flocking into the 100 Mile House Community Hall to reflect on 100 Mile House's past.
