10 YEARS AGO (2015): The annual Jack Gawthorn Memorial Sled Dog Race was cancelled due to a lack of snow. The race had been held in memory of Gawthorn for 26 years up until 2015. Cariboo Challenge Sled Dog Society president Craig Conklin said due to the number of out-of-town mushers that would attend the event, the society needed to make a decision 10 days in advance. Conklin did note, however, that planning the race had seen a good number of volunteers and financial support from local businesses prior to the cancellation.

20 YEARS AGO (2005): The Canoe Creek Indian Band had taken ownership of the water licences of Gustafsen Lake Dam, which was located west of 100 Mile House. In a ceremony held on Dec. 10, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) transferred the licenses to the band, as well as local rancher Lyle James and the Gust family. Scott Cousins, who was the Canoe Creek band's Natural Resources manager, stated that there was more significance to the celebration than the band merely becoming partners in ownership.

30 YEARS AGO (1995): As the 1994/1995 season of 100 Mile Minor Hockey resumed the community was treated to an exciting game between the Free Press Peewees and Culsko Logging out of Williams Lake. The Williams Lake team had come out strong in the first period having scored three unanswered goals, however, the Free Press responded by scoring two goals of their own, making the game 3-2. In the second period, the Free Press Peewees scored two additional goals. In the third period, the Williams Lake team tied the game 4-4, only for 100 Mile to score again. In the end, the game ended in a 7-7 tie.

40 YEARS AGO (1985): An arbitration board had recommended that a two-point eight per cent wage raise for teachers be enacted in School District 27 (SD27). The salary hike was planned to cover the contract period up until June 1985, according to President Roger Lagasse of the Cariboo Chilcotin Teacher's Association (CCTA). This had come after negotiations between the CCTA and the school board had broke off on Nov. 15, 1984 - leading to arbitrary hearings having to be held in Williams Lake on Dec. 20 and 21 of 1984. Lagasse said that before negotiations were held, the school board had kept insisting on no increases in wages.
