Co-ordinators of the South Cariboo Garlic Festival have been busy, cooking up a savory assortment of entertainment for this year’s event, which takes place Aug. 27-28 on the shores of beautiful Lac la Hache.

Two full days of music and dance are set to take place on the Rotary Club of 100 Mile mobile stage, so just bring your own lawn chair, sit back, and relax.

On Saturday, entertainment opens at 10 a.m. with the Canim Lake Dancers, dressed in their colourful finery, as they demonstrate traditional dance and song.

Following them at 11 p.m. will be the bluegrass band, Country Calibre, from Quesnel and noon will see Jessie Chapin from Williams Lake take the stage with her guitar, angelic vocals and talent for telling a good story through song.

The South Cariboo’s own James Gang band will perform everything from blues to country music from 1 to 2 p.m., and the Mad Hatter children’s entertainer will be delighting youngsters in the crowd from 2 to 3 p.m.

Vintage rock and roll band, Old School, with local high school teachers, Doug Steven, Bryan Ardiel, Mark Doolan, administrator Geoff Butcher, and tennis guy, Steve Neufeld, will captivate the audience with their energy and fine-tuned talent from 3 to 4 p.m., and Mosquito Creek country rockers from Quesnel will set the stage on fire from 4 p.m. to closing time at 5 p.m.

On Sunday morning, the stage show opens with a performance by the Cariboo Christian Life Fellowship Youth Band at 10 a.m., followed by folk, jazz and country singer, Linda Connell Studley from Dawson Creek from 11 a.m. to noon.

Local singer-songwriter Amber Bowen will combine folk music with some of her originals from noon to 1 p.m. before the Mad Hatter returns for a Sunday performance from 1 to 2 p.m.

While the Hatter entertains children, everyone else can gather in an area nearby to watch the Master Garlic Chef contest come to a close as the top 3 finalists cook off for the top prize of $1,000.

From 2 to 3 p.m., look forward to being rocked by young musicians, Ben Robinson and Brandon Reichardt who make up the band, Renaissance.

Baladi Babes belly dance troupe will shake it up from 3 to 3:30 p.m. and Cheeky Lil’ Monkeys Hawaiian dancers have the stage until 4 p.m.

Jeanette McCrea, key organizer of the 2011 festival, says things are shaping up for an awesome lineup of talent.

“We have a wide range of entertainment that’s suitable for everyone. Just come and enjoy the fun in the sun.”

Both days will also feature plenty of activities for children and a radar puck shoot game for all, which will be hosted by the Lac la Hache Tomahawks senior men’s hockey team.

On Sunday, the children’s garlic eating contest puckers up at 11:30 a.m., and at 11:45, adults will be gobbling as much of the stinkin’ rose as they can handle.
