The show must go on.
That is the thought of Jacquie McKay of the South Cariboo Theatre, where musician Barney Bentall was booked to perform in concert on March 17, as part of the Slapback Music Production Blues Jazz Concert Series.
Slapback cancelled the show last week due to poor ticket sales, but that did not sit right with McKay and she has arranged for Bentall to perform on March 31 at the theatre.
"We had advertised this show was taking place, and when you say you're going to do something, you should follow through. We're concerned about our future.
"It's the reliability factor. We want people to be assured that we will follow through with things."
McKay says she was extremely disappointed about getting news of the cancellation and is very excited about the turn-around.
She adds booking Bentall for an alternate date was a bit difficult because he is also scheduled to be at the Juno Awards, which take place April 1 in Ottawa and will be out of the country following that. McKay says he changed his travel plans to make it work.
"He really wants to do this concert because he's a local boy."
Bentall owns a ranch near Clinton.
McKay says that pre-sold tickets for the March 17 date will be honoured on the new concert date, and if necessary, people can also get refunds until March 20 at the South Cariboo Theatre.
New tickets are on sale for $40 at Donex and at the theatre box office, Tuesday through Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m.
"We'll see how it goes, and if it does well, we'll look into doing other concerts. We'll hopefully bring in other big names and maybe stand-up comedy to utilize our new stage as much as possible."
The concert starts at 8 p.m., with doors open at 7 p.m.
