Michaela Dickey speaks fondly of the support she received as a young singer and performer growing up in 100 Mile House.

Now that the 25-year-old opera singer and Montreal resident is well on her way to establishing herself as an artist, she's coming back to 100 Mile House to conduct a vocal camp for youths, Aug. 26-30.

When I was at home, we had quite a lot of people we could turn to for information and have help preparing for festivals and things like that. I was lucky enough to have a lot of wonderful mentors who allowed me to be where I am today. If I didn’t have them, I wouldn’t know this [kind of life] was out there.”

As well as acting and singing lessons, the camp will focus on learning about different languages and preparing for, and interpreting, songs and performances.

In order to delve into it, you have to have an understating of the text and interpret it to your audience, so they can understand as well.”

To cap off the week, there's s a public concert at 100 Mile United Church, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.

Music is probably the most rewarding thing on the planet. If I can offer them something that makes them want to do it more, want to explore it more, I will have achieved my goal.”
