The program for the 42nd Annual Festival of the Arts, set to kick off on April 22, is out.

The purpose of the festival is to promote and cultivate music and the performing arts in their various forms as a pleasing and beneficial auxiliary to community life in 100 Mile House and the surrounding areas.

Artists/performers will also have a chance to shoot for the provincial competition as each local festival can send one participant at each level of each discipline on the written recommendation of the adjudicator.

This year’s adjudicators are Alan Crane from Vancouver who will adjudicate piano classes, starting on April 23 and ending on April 25 with a workshop.

The instrumental adjudicator will be John White from Coquitlam and work with instrumental classes and school bands on April 27 and 28.

The vocal, speech arts and drama adjudicator is Gaye-Lynn Kern from Saskatoon who will adjudicate performers from April 30 to May 3.

“The public is invited and welcome to attend any, or all, of the classes and the Showcase Concert. Admission is by donation. We would like to encourage people to come along and see what our students are doing in the performing arts - it is very exciting,” according to festival communications person Ginny-Lou Alexander.

Festival president Shelly Morton says she wants to recognize the contributions of those who make the event possible, from financial patrons to parents and volunteers.

“Our festival is comprised of volunteers who are devoted to the arts in the community and give their time freely and enthusiastically. Without them, this festival would not be possible.”

The event will run until May 4 with all events taking place at Martin Exeter Hall.
