Ewan Macintyre, a Scottish musician will be infusing Celtic, Swing, Bluegrass and other genres for a Valentines Day show at the Critical Mass Pop-Up Gallery in 100 Mile House on Feb. 14.
“We’ve had Ewan Macintyre last year and we quite enjoyed him and the boys, they were a lot of fun and they put on a good show. He tells you a bit about each song before he plays it so he kind of draws you into the whole experience,” said Astrid Hensey of Momentum Productions who is putting on the show.
He has toured extensively the past two years, passing through the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada including a stop at Glasgow’s renowned Celtic Connections, an 18-day-festival in 2016 which included legendary act, The Chieftans.
The band is also in the middle of a tour and will be making stops in cities such as Squamish, Vancouver, Chilliwack and Vernon during February.
“One of the cool things about these shows we bring to town is that these bands or artists that are coming through are playing in all the big cities,” said Hensey. “It’s an opportunity for people in the community to catch that calibre of entertainment but without having to leave 100 Mile and that’s what people are missing when they don’t come to these shows.”
The show has a Valentines Day theme and Hensey expects the band to play the more romantic songs in their catalogue.
“We feel like Valentines would be a good night to have someone with Ewan MacIntyre,” said Hensey. “Be a good date night.”
Macintyre and his band are off the back of releasing their debut extended play You Probably Look Better Naked Anyway in 2015.
You Probably Look Better Naked Anyway ended up being number three on Canada’s National Folk Roots Charts.
The band will be releasing their follow up full-length Road Junkie sometime this year.
The Quebec-based musician employs Canadians and British talent in his band and used to perform as the lead vocalist in the Southern Tenant Folk Union, an English and Celtic folk band fused with American bluegrass that is still active and during his time in the band have appeared on national TV such as Ireland’s The View and The Late Late Show.
