Birds celebrated in new Showcase Gallery exhibit

Lesie Ginther is the featured artist of this month's Showcase Gallery

Birds of a feather have flocked together for Creatures of the Air at the Showcase Gallery this month.

On June 3, Cariboo Artist Guild member Leslie Ginther installed her new show, Creatures of the Air, at the gallery located in the South Cariboo Business Centre. Featuring 10 of Ginther's acrylic and watercolour paintings of various birds, the show is intended to celebrate birds as a symbol of joy, wisdom and freedom.

"I find the Earth's incredible natural beauty and artistry to be a never-ending source of inspiration for topics to paint, whether it be a flower, landscape or living creature," Ginther wrote in her artist's statement. "Drawing and painting provide me with a sense of connection, peace and appreciation for the living world."

A longtime artist, Ginther said her original artistic inspiration came from the paintings done by her grandmother. She noted that for Creatures of the Air she chose birds who primarily can be found in and around the South Cariboo.

Ginther thanked fellow artist Bobbie Crane for her constructive input and local photographer Brian Thorsteinson for allowing her to use his photos as reference for her work. Creatures of the Air will be on display at the Showcase Gallery until July 1 during the business centre's regular business hours.
