Winter struggling to gain a foothold at Canim Lake

Two days after they ran against each other in the Cariboo Regional District election for the Area H directorship

Dear Canimites:

The snow comes and goes, as winter struggles to ascendancy. Mindless of the seasonal shift, the swans still picnic on Canim Lake, comfy within their five-centimetre layer of down.

Election over

By the time you read this, the election of Margo Wagner as Cariboo Regional District Area H Director will be well reported.

Congratulations to her and also to Ron Lister. They vigorously contested the position, but did so with a great deal of dignity and respect for each other.

Both have a tremendous record of volunteer service, great personal strengths, and a will to keep working for the community. The large number of votes each polled show people recognize this. Both are due a great deal of thanks.

Two days after the election, they were at work together in the Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department Hall #2. They note they were friends before the election, friends through the election, and continue to be friends after the election.

Community Club

There will be a Community Club meeting on Dec. 1 at Margo's Cabin at 10 a.m.

On the agenda is planning for the annual Bachelor Bake. The grand “sorting of the goodies” is scheduled for Dec. 15.

(Note to Self:  grab some cookies before Sheila gets out the door because none ever come back.)

The club will also tally up proceeds from the Book Exchange, which appear to be about $70.

The exchange is a handy service for avid readers. The book collection is at the Cabin, and members need only leave a book to take a book, and throw a dollar into the kitty.

At Christmas each year, the money is passed along to the Loaves and Fishes Outreach, with a top-up donation from the club.

Folks can pick up a new book at any time; just let Margo know you are coming by phoning 250-397-0016.

The Christmas dinner/smorg will be at B.J.'s Donuts & Eatery on Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. The new Club Activity Calendars for 2012 will be distributed.

If you are not a member of the club, you are most welcome to join in any of these activities. A fiver at the door buys you a membership.

People news

Congratulations to Dolores Angell, who at her first time at Tuesday night crib, rocked the regulars with enough skill to take top points.

Calendar

• Ladies Luncheon at the Red Rock Grill, Dec. 6 at 1 p.m.

• The 3C's at Margo's Cabin, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m.

Shopping advisory

'Tis the season for shopping. Have fun, but give close attention to the hype lest you purchase the kind of gift that finds its way to the first flea market.

Here's one advertised as “Exotic, Sensual, and Adventurous. They vibrate with the pulse of life and the spirit of adventure - a destination on the journey of self-discovery.”  Is this a cruise to Bali, or a Ferrari? Nay, dear readers, it is but a lowly can of paint.

Until next time, here's wishing you many colourful blessings.
