What's happening in the South Cariboo

• The South Cariboo Meat Co-op is holding a groundbreaking celebration June 24 at 2 p.m. at the building site at the junction of Old Forest Grove Road and Canim-Hendrix Lake Road (one kilometre from Highway 97). An informal reception will follow around 3 p.m. in the Valley Room of The Lodge.

• Veterans in the community are invited to the 100 Mile Legion Branch 260 annual Veterans’ Dinner on June 25 at 6 p.m. No charge for veterans, and guests are $20. Contact the Legion at 250-395-2511.

• The 100 Mile Model Flyers Club has an event June 25-26 at South Cariboo Regional Airport at 108 Mile. Radio-controlled plane demos, food, fun and more. Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission by cash donation to the 100 Mile House Food Bank.

• Cariboo Christian Life Fellowship church at 108 Mile Ranch is hosting gospel concert by The Wiebes on June 26, starting at 7 p.m. For more details, call 250-791-5532.

• The 100 Mile House United Church is celebrating its 50th anniversary on June 26 in the church, 43 Dogwood Cres., from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

• Mixed Up Mutts Rescue Society is having a fundraising bottle drive on June 26. Bottles and cans can be dropped off at Lakeland Vet Clinic, The Lakes Hair Studio and Eco Boutique in Sheridan Lake. Pickup will also be done in 100 Mile and 108 Mile by calling Mandy at 250-945-9008.

• Club Excel Gymnastics Team invites everyone to come and watch their eight-minute routine at 7 p.m. on June 27 at the Bridge Lake School where they will be holding their last Monday night practice before travelling to Switzerland, where they will perform as part of the 2011 Canadian World Gymnaestrada Team.

• The 100 Mile House and area Canada Day Celebrations will be held at 108 Heritage Site on July 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be entertainment, vendors, concession, fun and games for children and tours of the museum.
