The David Stoddart School (DSS) “Jingle Shop” ran from Dec. 10 to 14 this year, with gifts of $2 and under for kids to shop for their families and friends.
Reminder: the pizza program will not run on Friday, Dec. 21. Instead, there will be turkey “bunwiches” served to all staff and students. Students in Clinton finish classes this year on Dec. 21, which means winter break runs from Dec. 22 through Jan. 6. Classes resume on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.
Looking forward to the new year, the school has announced that its annual “Share Our Story” event, showcasing the school’s year-long learning, will take place on Thursday, May 2, 2019.
Lastly, the school wishes to remind families that now is the time of year when head lice start to appear. Parents should check children’s hair on a regular basis and remind them not to share hats, earpieces, brushes, or combs.

Communities in Bloom spreads Christmas Spirit
The local Communities in Bloom committee has been busy this holiday season, with the organization of a variety of events that have helped to bring Christmas spirit to the community. The Christmas Light-up event has been a success so far, and the “Decorate a Tree” initiative, which took place earlier this month, was no different.
The winner of Clinton’s first ever Decorate a Tree event was the Clinton Ambulance Service. This was the first time that the group has decorated their building for the holidays, and everyone at the station took part in the festive activity
Special mention for decorated trees went to Clinton’s Home Building Centre, where employees journeyed to find their own Christmas tree and decorated it with hardware-themed items such as nuts and bolts. Thanks to Clinton’s Community Forest for donating the trees that were decorated by various businesses and groups throughout the community.
Yvette May, Clinton’s CiB Chair, thanks everyone who helped organize the event, as well as all the businesses that participated in decorating. A team from Clinton’s Communities in Bloom toured the Village on Friday, Dec. 7—the night of Midnight Madness—to observe all the wonderfully decorated trees. The CiB was impressed.
Others who participated in the event by decorating and displaying a tree included the Clinton Emporium, 47 Mile Vintage Shop, Bubbles Blossom Design, the Seniors’ Association, Budget Foods, the Post Office, Integris Credit Union, the North Road Trading Post, David Stoddart School, and the TNRD Library.
Thanks to all who participated in this first-time event. Organizers are already looking forward to next year’s contest. In the meantime, remember to put up your Christmas lights before Dec. 19 and turn them on by 6:30 pm, to be judged in the CiB Christmas Light-up event.
Integris Credit Union is also spreading holiday cheer, as they are once again participating in a Stocking Stuffer event to help those in need. Residents are encouraged to pick up a stocking at the bank or insurance office this December. Stockings are available there to fill and donate, and can be picked up and dropped off at the Credit Union from now until Christmas.
