Transfer station upgraded

Community news happening in the 70 Mile House area

The 70 Mile House transfer station is being upgraded. Space is being cleared for additional waste and recycling bins to handle the high volumes of trash. The station will also be accepting electronics, paint, and other new products.

Watch for the official date with the list of products being accepted. A new office will be constructed for the attendant and a scale is being installed to weigh incoming loads.

 

Fire call

In the early hours of Aug. 24 the 70 Mile fire department was called to a fire at 76 Mile.

Firefighters fought the fire for several hours but the house was a total loss.

 

Poker

A poker tournament was held Aug. 9 with 21 players attending.  The winners were: First place went to Eric Graham,  Lindsay Moore came in second, Wayne Kidwell third, and Pauline Charlie fourth.

The next tournament will be held Sept. 13 at the 70 Mile Community Hall.  Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and play starts at 12:20 p.m.

 

Bingo

The next bingo will be held Sept. 11 at Seventy Mile Access Centre.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m., bingo starts at 6:30.

 

Bookmobile

The Thompson Nicola bookmobile will be in the area on Sept. 11.  It will be at the South Green Lake fire hall from 10 to 11 a.m. and at the 70 Mile General Store from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
