Tom McIntosh enjoys being a volunteer for the annual Relay for Life

Tom McIntosh has been the volunteer chair for the children’s activities at the Relay for Life since 2004

When Tom McIntosh was asked by the Relay for Life co-ordinator to join the committee in 2004, he realized it was a perfect fit with his own beliefs and he jumped on board.

Since then he has been invited back every year as the volunteer chair for the children’s activities.

While the event’s dates, activities and committee structure have changed over the years, McIntosh says working with a group of motivated and upbeat people is a consistent draw.

“I look forward to, and enjoy, the positive team approach of the committee, and working together to find answers.”

Being part of Relay for Life has personal connections for McIntosh, whose father and both grandmothers fought cancer and won.

However, he also enjoys the interactive relationship with the volunteer youth helping out with the children’s activities, and the people who bring their children to the play area.

As a father of five and director of the Lake of the Trees Bible Camp, McIntosh proudly jokes about the “Kids R Us” label he has in the community.

Of this year’s committee, McIntosh says there is an extra high level of commitment and passion. While it is always welcoming, he adds, the group was even more so this year.

There is a real energy and cohesiveness present this year, and everyone has a job that is perfectly suited for them, he notes.

With his “crazy” schedule, community commitments, and more than a one-hour round trip on unpaved roads for meetings in town, McIntosh embodies this commitment and passion for the 2013 Relay for Life.
