Horse Lake Elementary School kindergarten students gave the thumbs-up at the end of the school's Terry Fox Run on Sept. 28.

Students and teachers alike were thankful for the beautiful fall weather on Sept. 28 when they participated in their annual Terry Fox Run.

Several students shared their thoughts about the Terry Fox cause through poems, and students raised money for the event through personal donations.

Clean chimneys

While visiting at my newest neighbours last week, the chimney in their bedroom, where my children were watching TV, started on fire.

As the flames started licking out and up the wall, the children quickly alerted us. The Lone Butte and Watch Lake volunteer fire departments both responded and, thankfully, the home was saved.

The renters alerted the homeowners who have now taken precautions to have everything cleaned and inspected.

Power Outages

Well, it has certainly been quite a windy week with a lot of power outages in the area.

Hats off to all the hard work the BC Hydro employees and tree-removal specialists have done in the area to keep us all lit up

We need to remember to keep our yards safe by removing any dangerous trees that could fall on our buildings or a power line. We should also be prepared with safety candles, flashlights and some water.

Halloween dance

The Lone Butte Historical Society (LBHS) is hosting a Halloween dance on Oct. 29 at the Lone Butte Community Hall.

Come dressed up for the event and dance the night away to Mark Allen. Tickets are available in advance only from Kelly's Whistle Stop Cafe, the Lone Butte Store and Nuthatch Books.

Donations for the silent auction fundraiser would be appreciated. Call Al Jones for more information at 395-5193. No minors will be permitted.

Executive elected

The LBHS held its annual general meeting on Sept. 21 and there was an election of officers.

Al Jones is president, and his board includes vice-president Shirley Canning, treasurer Bob Cockram and secretary Gayle Jones. Directors include Evelyn Nelson, Anna Granberg, Verna Desjardine, and Mary Carter.

The society recently received a $3,000 grant from the Cariboo Regional District that will help immensely with their restoration projects.

Congratulations go out to the many winners of the LBHS's recent raffle and big thank-you to all of the generous businesses and individuals who donated items for the cause.

Flea Market

The Lone Butte/Horse Lake Community Association (LBHLCA) held another successful flea market/craft sale on Sept. 24.

Some new vendors came out to sell their products and the regulars were all there with a smile for all the shoppers.

AGM slated

Come one come all to the LBHLCA's annual general meeting on Nov. 8.

The membership needs people and being on the executive or attending meetings is not mandatory, but your interest and support of the community is.

Call Christine Gallagher for more information at 395-9039.

Toy Run

Sept. 28 found a great group of motorcycle enthusiasts and classic car owners out to support our local 100 Mile House Food Bank Society at the annual toy run.

A truckload of toys came in and $1,243.24 was raised through personal contributions and a by-donation lunch that was generously donated by the Iron Horse Pub.
