A months-long beginner class with the Taoist Tai Chi Society - 100 Mile House

Cultivating both body and mind are objects of Taoist tai chi. Learning the sequence of 108 moves associated with the exercise is something to be celebrated and that's what a local group of tai chi enthusiasts intend to do. A beginner class with the International Taoist Tai Chi Society - 100 Mile House, recently finished a set of lessons, which taught them the 108 basic moves. Group members are proud of themselves, and as a pat on the back for their accomplishment and to bring attention to their interest, the club is having an open house with a free introductory lesson. It takes place on Feb. 22 at Creekside Seniors Activity Centre with one lesson and open house at 10:30 a.m. and another at 6 p.m. Bonnie Winter, a club member who has gone through the beginner class several times, says tai chi is an exercise suitable for people of any age. "It's considered to be a healing practice, centred around, and moving around your spine. It's excellent for all muscles, tendons and internal organs. People can practice tai chi at any physical level - even from a chair." The local club has 48 members and has been active in the community for five years. They are inviting everyone in the community to come and see what they are about. For more information, contact Karen at 250-456-2324 or Gloria at 250-395-1025. Creekside is located on Cedar Avenue between 100 Mile Junior Secondary and the hospital.
