It’s hard to believe that it is already August, but there is still time to hit the lake, do some swimming or boating, or just kick back with a good book.

You'd better get going though, as summer is quickly slipping by and you don't want to miss it.

Busy community

Lone Butte has been buzzing with all the travellers stopping in to use our little community, as they pass through on their vacations.

They’re stopping in for gas or last-minute snacks, a cold refreshment to beat the heat, or to grab a bratwurst or a piece of homemade pie.

In the past couple of weeks, we’ve had visitors from Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Alberta, the Coast and even some new soon-to-be locals who are soon moving to Lone Butte. Our area brings an abundance of visitors from all over the world, which adds to the lustre of the Cariboo.

Market planned

Lone Butte had another successful flea market and craft sale, with the next one coming up on Aug. 11.

If you would like to get in on the sale with a table inside or out, contact Pat McKay at 250-395-2114. The doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the sale goes to 2:30 p.m.

O.U.T. meetings

Contact Pat if you would like to know anything about the Other Unusual Talents (O.U.T.) group that meets on the first and third Tuesdays at the community hall from 10 a.m. to noon to share stories, craft ideas and coffee.

It’s always a fun time and they are meeting through the summer.

Calming exercise

Tai Chi is also happening through the summer at the community hall on Monday evenings.

Call Karen Broughton at 250-706-8222 to find out more about this activity.

Community efforts

The next community association meeting is set for the hall Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.

New members or interested parties are always welcome to come out and be involved. Call the writer if you would like to know more about how you can be part of this.

Sad passing

The community’s thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends of Elke Hirsch from the Red Willow Ranch who recently passed away.

It shocked everyone who knew and loved her. She will be missed by many.

Celebrations

Birthday greetings go out to Bernd Schmidt and Cathie Katona who both celebrate birthdays in August.

If you have any family events you would like to see in the community column, or have any announcements or celebrations to share, please call me at 250-644-1555 and I'll do my best to get them in.
