Cariboo Kids presents Clinton Pre-Soccer

Clinton’s Cariboo Kids program will be starting up a new activity this spring: Clinton Pre-Soccer.

Clinton Pre-Soccer is intended for children aged three to five who are currently ineligible to play in league soccer. The program has been organized by volunteers and does not intend to be part of the South Cariboo Minor Soccer Association. Rather, the Clinton Pre-Soccer group will practice skills and drills at Reg Conn Park each Thursday for an hour, from 4 to 5 p.m.

The program’s plan is to get started in mid-April, and fully expects parent participation, as this will be a volunteer-run event. Clinton Pre-Soccer is currently applying for funding through “Make Children First” and will also be ordering T-shirts and balls for their team.

The cost to participate is $10 per child, payable on the first day of practice. The season is tentatively set to run for nine weeks from April 19 to June 14, weather permitting.

Parents are asked to contact Sandi Burrage at 250-852-1203 to register for Pre-Soccer, and provide your child’s name and T-shirt size, as soon as possible.

Updates from David Stoddart School

DSS has been busy in the New Year, with students enjoying various field trips within and beyond the Village. Throughout the past months, Elementary students enjoyed the Rocks and Rings program, where they got the opportunity to be introduced to the sport of curling. This event was paid for through fundraising by the PAC, which will hold its next meeting on Thursday, March 15 at the school.

Also in February, the Intermediate classes attended the School District Lahal competition, and high school students from DSS participated in a Winter Skills program that saw them travel to Manning Park. Intermediate students also visited the Kamloops Residential School Museum, and everyone participated in “Pink Shirt Day” to support anti-bullying on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

A reminder that Kids’ Night takes place each Thursday at David Stoddart School, beginning at 6 p.m. in the gym. On Tuesdays, drop-in volleyball is available for high schoolers in the gym from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The After School Sports and Arts Initiative (ASSAI) also takes place each day from 3 to 5 p.m. at the school, except on Thursdays.

Spring Break is coming! Students attend their final day of classes on Friday, March 16 and will return for the first day back from the break on Tuesday, April 3.

For those students who will be graduating this year, don’t forget that graduation photo sessions will take place on Wednesday, April 11 beginning at 9 a.m. There is a $25 sitting fee for the photos, and a sign-up sheet can be found with Mrs. Allison in the school office.

A complimentary Easter Breakfast will be held on Sunday, April 1 at the Clinton Memorial Hall.

The event, which is set to begin at 9 a.m., will be jointly hosted by the churches of Clinton. All citizens are invited to attend for a free community breakfast.
