Spring into action by checking your smoke alarm

100 Mile House Fire-Rescue remind residents it's a great time to check their smoke alarms

British Columbians moved their clocks ahead one hour on Saturday night for Daylight Savings Time, and 100 Mile House Fire-Rescue reminds residents it's a great time to check their smoke alarms and change the batteries.

Even if folks forgot to do this on March 9, firefighters say residents change their smoke alarm batteries right now, and make the springtime hour change/battery change an annual routine.

The usual life span of a smoke alarm is 10 years. British Columbians are encouraged to check their smoke alarms on a monthly basis – both by pressing the test button to ensure they are working properly, and to check that the batteries have not expired.
