Sheep dog trials at 105 Mile

Bring the family to watch the herding competitions

The annual Sheep Dog Trial hosted by Sandhill Lea Ranch is happening on Aug. 27-28.

The community is invited to attend this free event that runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (both days). Dogs and their handlers compete in herding lambs and ewes through a challenging course at the ranch near 105 Mile.

A full concession will be there with food and refreshments, with proceeds once again going to Make-A-Wish Foundation Canada.

Now in their fifth year, organizers Lorne and Lynn Landry welcome spectators and suggest they bring their own lawn chairs – but not your dog. Pets are not allowed.

Last year, about 40 people took in take in the action of about 25 participants with their sheep dogs competing in various categories.

Landry notes that at this year's weekend event, more competitors than ever will be coming from as far away as Washington State, Alberta and northern British Columbia.

To find it, head north on Highway 97 from 100 Mile House to Tatton Lake Road, turn left, and follow the signs about 10 kilometres to Abel Lake Road, and turn right. Sandhill Lea Ranch is at 5028 Abel Lake Rd.
